AN INTERESTING MIX OF BETTER-THAN-AVERAGE ANTIQUES…
We’ve sold the - Fabulous Doll Collection… Now you have a chance to acquire some of the household treasures - Cabinets, furnishings, artwork and accessories that made this charming home so special! A joyful spirit, a pioneer woman ahead of her time. successfully pursuing a career in the male-dominated world of medicine! Her thirst for knowledge expanded into the doll world and through self-immersion and life-long study, she became a national authority among doll collectors. Withington is pleased to present the remaining contents of this seaside home with an emphasis on country and farmhouse style. Our favorite piece is the Step-back cupboard in Old Blue Paint - with an interesting history: The piece spent most of its early life in the summer kitchen which was located near the horse-stalls in the barn. Apparently - Old Nelly needed a little something to settle her tummy, so she began to nibble the side of the cupboard that could be reached by straining her neck around the corner. This behavior, called “cribbing”, has a soothing effect, may reduce stress, making the horse feel better, though it didn’t do much for the cupboard! So for these many years, the old blue cupboard, has retained its name as the “Horse Cupboard”. Favorite pieces included a pierced tin pie safe, a moderate-sized Pennsylvania Kas, with double doors in old blue/ grey, a tall display cabinet with glass sides and doors (not old), club chairs, modern, yet comfortable, tables, large and small, continuous-arm, bow-back Windsor chairs, which have been professionally restored enhancing their story, Cherry 2-over 3 graduated drawer, cherry chest, hand-dovetailed with original brasses, a 2-door jelly cupboard with boot jack ends, in old red…. An oak Side-by-Side oak case with drop front desk, and multi shelves, other chairs, tables and more! There are soft color penny rugs, Oriental rugs, tables full of bed linens, (almost new). There are boxes full of great books on many subjects: Dolls, Antiques, Lace-making, painting History, fine children’s books. You will find vintage toys, metal planes, Cowboy Collectibles - Roy Rogers, Lone Ranger, Gege Autry, Tom mix, comic books, G-Men, View Master, early Marbles. Oil & Watercolor Paintings of the seaside communities, Many boxes of Sea Shells for Sailors’ Valentine crafting, etc.,
Selected additions from several small estates for your treasure-hunting pleasure… Tables, chairs, chests of drawers, textiles. “Hippy Furs” and even a bear skin rug!
