About the Sale
This is the part 1 of the lifelong collection of Jamie Gnomes.
Jamie was a life-long lover of teddy bears and stuffed animals and she had been collecting stuffed animals in one form or another since she ...view morewas a little girl. Her teddy bears were a great source of joy and comfort for her and she was always meticulous in caring for her stuffed animals. She would take great pride in displaying them and sharing the story behind each one.
In adulthood, she had the opportunity to acquire her first Steiff pieces. She quickly became a big fan of all things Steiff and became an enthusiastic member of the Steiff collecting community. Jamie developed many long lasting friendships with collectors near and far through their mutual interest in collecting. She enjoyed hearing about the history of her friends’ pieces and sharing with them the stories behind each of her own. She had a particular interest in vintage and previously loved pieces because of the human connection they brought through the stories attached to them. When she could, she also enjoyed participating in events with other collectors where they could talk and share stories about their pieces and great finds, and sometimes even trade pieces with one another.
Jamie’s collection included over 5,000 individual pieces, with over 500 Steiff pieces including a dozen or so studio pieces. Probably the most impressive thing is that Jamie could tell you when and where she acquired each and every piece in her large collection. Another great source of joy for Jamie was the annual “thinning of the herd” in which she would make room for new pieces in the collection by donating a percentage of the collection to needy children who could then love and appreciate the piece as much as she did.
