The Goodspeed's Book Shop, Boston, was established in 1898 by Charles Elliot Goodspeed, father of George.
Goodspeed's was known for its vast and valuable collection of ephemera, and the store customer register log included signatures by the likes of: Rudolph Valentino, Carl Sandburg, Harry Houdini, Irving Stone, Childe Hassam and other notable persons. Upon Charles' death George took over as president until the shoppe closed its doors in 1995, just short of being open for a century.
