Item Description

A mutilated copy missing parts of pages.
This revised and enlarged edition of Noah Webster's landmark American English dictionary builds upon earlier editions from 1828 and 1840. It contains etymologies tracing English words to 20+ languages, orthography corrections, syllabic breakdowns for pronunciation help, definitions with illustrative examples from reputable sources, and appended pronouncing vocabularies. Edited by Professor Chauncey A. Goodrich and published by George and Charles Merriam in Springfield, Mass., this updated Webster dictionary sought to catalog American English and standardize spellings while tracing words to their diverse linguistic roots.
