The writer of the second Preface is said to be the learned Rev. Samuel Lee, of Bristol in New England, who returned to the mother country.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​“ Rev. Samuel Lee represents an important bridge between Old and New England Puritanism in the late 17th century— noted for his brief but significant tenure in Bristol, Rhode Island (1686-1691).
