Archive lot includes sixty-five original black & white 8” x 10” photographs documenting the comings and goings of an active community radio station.

WSCR 1000 On Your Radio Dial, The New VOICE of SCRANTON, formally opened on May 10, 1947.
”With a yearly average of over 13 hours of broadcasting every day, WSCR will service the Lackawanna Mid Wyoming Valley communities with complete entertainment and Public Service features. Local Talent to Be Heard Over WSCR The invitation of all artists, amateur or professional, to appear on the radio is being offered with no strings attached. Any one you know that has radio potentialities should be directed to come to our WSCR Transmitter Located Near Morgan Highway The new station transmitter for WSCR is located near the Morgan Highway at 1520 North Keyser Ave.”

By 1951, WSCR moved to 1320 on the dial. In 1980, the station was sold to a small company called Command Broadcasting. It had several stations in upstate New York. The WSCR call letters were abandoned in favor of WBQW, or 13 Q. The reasoning was that a "Scranton" station would never get listeners downvalley. It never succeeded commercially, was sold several times, and went out og business soon after.
