"Cuthbert Bede" pseud., 1827-1890, was educated at Durham University; ordained 1850.
He contributed regularly to Punch and other periodicals; was author of ADVENTURES OF MR. VERDANT GREEN, AN OXFORD FRESHMAN, illustrated by the author, London, 1853; PHOTOGRAPHIC PLEASURES, PORTRAYED WITH PEN AND PENCIL, London, 1855, (he was known to have been the first to satirize photography.
Bradley had learned wood-engraving from no less than George Cruikshank, but, as Houfe notes, remained very much the amateur, illustrating his own books and others in a jolly and careless style. Medley, this title, is scarce.
