This photogravure print of author William Dean Howells (1 Mar 1837 - 11 May 1920) was made by photographer George Collins Cox (1851 - 1902) around 1900. The image measures approx. 9 × 7 inches and is on a sheet 12 × 10 inches. Howells was a well-known American realist author, literary critic, and playwright, and this photograph captures him later in life. Cox was an American photographer from Dayton, Ohio who was especially known for his portraits of celebrities and cultural figures. This print is a finely-detailed example of his photographic and photomechanical work. The image was likely from an issue of the publication "Sun & Shade, " early artistic photography publication known for its high quality photogravures. SHIPPING AVAILABLE.
