Four of these translations appeared initially as Primal Sound & Other Prose Pieces, illustrated with wood engravings by Paul Wieghardt and printed in 1943. That edition was limited to just one hundred seventy five copies and has been out of print for some time. It included an Introduction by Mr. Niemeyer at the close of which be makes acknowledgments to Mme. Margit Varró, signally, for aid in his translating the pieces, and to the late Katharine Frazier and to Harry Duncan for their exhortations. The volume at hand, in which " An Experience" and the woodcuts by Mr. Williams appear for the first time, is printed, entirely from newly set type, published, and copyrighted, 1943 and 1947, by The Cummington Press at Cummington, Massachusetts.
