Seminal Walker Evans monograph featuring 12 compelling images from 1931 through 1962, each capturing photographic details of Americana, with an introduction by MoMA curator John Szarkowski. Images convey an enduring and intimate view of people and places through Evans' iconic visual style - stark, honest, and unsentimental. Quoting Szarkowski, “the photographs of Walker Evans pretend to reproduce – without i Interpretation, without feeling, almost without thought – the very bones and clay of the actual world.” An important work exemplifying Evans' influence on modern documentary photography.
