Item Description

“Redding, 1969” Artist Signed "T. Millea"— Gelatin silver print on paper, nicely mounted to a presentation mat. In the late 1960s, Tom Millea began studying with renowned landscape and nature photographer Paul Caponigro in Redding, Connecticut. During this formative period, Caponigro taught Millea his minimalist and mystical approach to capturing the essence of the natural world through photography. Millea absorbed Caponigro's philosophy of patiently waiting for the perfect conditions and light before making an exposure. In 1969-1970, Millea co-directed the Underground Gallery of Photography in New York City with a focus on displaying visceral and evocative photographic prints. Millea continued learning from Caponigro for several years in Redding while also beginning to establish his own style as a landscape and nude photographer. This early mentorship with Paul Caponigro was integral in shaping Millea's distinctive vision as he embarked on his photography career. SHIPPING AVAILABLE.
