Charles Lindbergh was an American aviator, military officer, author, inventor, explorer, and environmental activist. He gained instant world fame winning the Orteif Prize, making his infamous nonstop flight from Roosevelt Field in Long Island, New York to Paris in "The Spirit of St. Louis, his airplane. On March 1, 1932, Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr., the 20 month son of Charles and Anne Morrow was abducted from his crib in the upper floor of their home in Highfields, East Amwell, New Jersey. The child's corpse was discovered May 12 off the side of a nearby road. German immigrant carpenter, Richard Hauptmann was arrested in 1934 and tried for the crime in 1935. Newspaper writer H.L. Mencken called the kidnapping and trial "the biggest story since the Resurrection" and legal scholars have referred to the trial as one of the "trials of the century." The US Congress was spurred to pass the Federal Kidnapping Act which is commonly refereed to as the "Lindbergh Law."
There is evidence of creasing in the photograph and there is a spot in Evangeline's right ankle.
