This is an incredible example of a Canterbury rack from this time period. It is circa 1820 - 1850. This little rack has turned legs and one drawer for storage. It is in rosewood and mahogany, and has three sections for magazines, newspapers, or sheet music. It has the original brass casters and decorative finials on each corner. The detail and craftsmanship of this piece are truly stunning!
It has an impressed mark reading "T. Willson 68 Great Queen Street London". Thomas Willson (1799 - 1854) was a furniture broker, auctioneer, appraiser, upholsterer, and cabinet maker. There is some confusion between T. Willson and T. Wilson - but it is believed that T. Willson donated an impressive library table to the Soane Museum in 1837.
It has normal scuffs and scratches to the finish - you can see the marks in the photos. Otherwise it is in good condition and structurally sound. It measures about 20" tall by 20" wide by 15" deep.
