Cowboy Kate & Other Stories (1964) is a seminal title in the history of post-war creative photography. The first photo book to include a purely visual fictional narrative and the first title to make exaggerated use of grain as a deliberate creative technique. The books layout is in many ways as important as the photography and the creative printing techniques in the darkroom.
Cowboy Kate won the Prix Nadar in France in the year of publication and 40 years later was included in the ICP show in NY, The Open Book: A History of the Photographic Book from 1878 to the Present.
