This is a very unusual antique ballot box or the poison pill box. Members of an organization place a white or clay black ball in one side to vote on a person considered for membership upon opening the other side you would see if he got the black ball. This was an anonymous way of voting in the 19th century. Square nail construction.
Measurements The box is 9 1/2 “ long, 6 inches wide, 5 inches tall.
Notes: Overall very good condition and very usable.
