John Gould Scissor Tailed Hummingbird Lithograph. Inscriptions read ‘J Gould and W Hart, del et lith Thalurania Refulgens Tab I’, Hylonympha Macrocerca Tab II’, subject two hummingbirds flying near flowers. Gilt wood and black edge frame. Frame has surface wear. Pinstripe matted and in good condition, with toning visible, but not examined out of frame. John Gould FRS was an English ornithologist. He published a number of monographs on birds, illustrated by plates produced by his wife, Elizabeth Gould, and several other artists, including Edward Lear, Henry Constantine Richter, Joseph Wolf and William Matthew Hart.
