Poem Reads
A TOAST... to Cupid's lacy love letters.... THE VALENTINE
Saint Valentine must have spun in his crypt in the Church of St. Praxedes in Rome at all the commotion he is reputed to have caused every February 14th for generations. For he is honored as the patron saint of lovers and his name connotes the billions of love messages that annually carry sweet
nothings to young and old alike. For centuries, valentines
have been cups, jugs, plates, even gloves which were very
popular in the 16th Century. In today's world, valentines are lacy confections, beribboned with ornate bows and furbelows, adorned with cupids, hearts and the ever present arrow. There are sometimes scurrilous comic valentines, too- not for lovers. In all this wondrous melange of angels, flowers, doves and beauty, there has come time to salute
Valentine's day with a memorable token... this very special
Valentine plate from Royal Doulton, first in a new series. It will forever commemorate the man who made all this lovely commotion, the Bishop of Terni, born A.D. 230 it is believed, and known forever as Saint Valentine.
