Artist LW Schlesinger
Framed, measure 13 1/2 x 16
Background history on artist Lucille Wolff Schlesinger: Lucille was born in Saint Louis in 1890 to 2 German Jewish parents, the oldest of 3 children. The family moved to Chicago when she was a young girl. She was the first girl in the family to go to college. Lucille was a very independent and modern woman, way ahead of her times. She marched with the suffragettes. The family was quite prominent in their Jewish social circle and were often written up in local society pages. When she met the love of her life, Edwin Schlesinger, they married and moved to New York, Manhattan, where they lived for the rest of their lives. They travelled across the country by horse drawn buggy. Lucille raised 2 boys who both were drafted in World War 2. She worked for awhile as a schoolteacher, and when Edwin died in 1960, Lucille decided to take up painting. She found an art teacher in Greenwich Village, NY and became a serious artist, although she was a little shy about her works and refused to show or sell them. Instead she would give them as gifts to family and friends. And now we are offering her great works of art to you.
