There is some sort of docking plate mounted in the middle of headboard so will need to be taken off, it is screwed in.
Beauty Rest Black Mattress appears to be ok - there is a big stain on it though. It is a memory foam so will be VERY heavy. Mattress is OPTIONAL.
The light is optional but is attached to a piece of wood mounted on the back of headboard.
