A stylish example of a fine pair of bohemian emerald green ground gilt heightened white enamel hand cut full lead crystal lusters of outstanding quality and of good size proportions. Third quarter of the nineteenth century, possibly earlier.
Each with unusual trumpet form supports with wavy rims, all ending on a circular gilt enameled base suspending nine crystal triangular prisms with spear shaped tips. Each circular bowl with stylish arcaded rims with rounded portrait hand paintings depicting Still Life of Summer flowers on white enameled ground. Made in the Czech Republic, these stunning pieces were considered the height of luxury in the Victorian era. Mantle lusters were used as candle stands and were placed on either end of a fireplace mantel. The term "luster" refers to the crystal or glass prisms that hang from the bowl, designed to reflect light throughout a room.
