She was married to Tony Fruscella and to Willie Dennis.
Her professional singing career began at age sixteen. She had a four-octave contralto vocal range. In 1964, she received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist. The award went to the Beatles. She headlined clubs, concert halls and hotels, and toured throughout the United States, Europe, Australia and South America.
She charted with "I Have Loved Me a Man" in 1967, which rose to #34 on the U.S. adult contemporary charts.
