Gorgeous Santa Clara Pueblo blackware pottery vase. Signed by artist Sharon Naranjo Garcia. Measures 5" tall x 5" wide.

Sharon Naranjo Garcia was born into Santa Clara Pueblo in 1951 and learned to make pottery the traditional way, by watching, working with and learning from her grandmother, Christina Naranjo, as she grew up.

She learned the Santa Clara ways, then moved to San Juan Pueblo when she got married. When her grandmother passed away in 1980, Sharon made the decision to make pottery full time. Since then she has specialized in making large blackware jars with carved avanyu designs or with impressed bear paw designs on her polished pots. She also sometimes makes seedpots and vases in black and red ware.
