Artist Ruth Burke has been preserving the history of the Clear Lake Area with her photographs since 1978. The energy of the expanding horizons in space contrasted with quaint fishing villages and natural coastal environments teaming with magnificent shore birds captured her eye.

Ruth always related to the world around her with pictures. As a child she spent hours drawing and painting what she saw around her. But being the impatient and spontaneous person she is, when she discovered photography, she fell in love with making pictures the moment she saw them.

In college, Ruth majored in art and interior design which included classes about photography. To fulfill her assignments, she would photograph the areas around her in Seabrook and Kemah. She was captivated by the instant changes of light on water intercepted with intricate compositions of shrimp boat riggings, sailboat mast and lush coastal grasses with birds walking in their midst.
