CARD IS FAIR BUT FOR A T206 THEY STILL HAVE A HUGE FOLLOWING AND THIS IS A CENTERED ONE
Known as the “Piano Mover,” Frank Smith looked more like a piano. The hefty 5-foot 10-inch, 194-pound Smith credited his offseason work at the family moving business with developing his strength and physique, helping him to become one of the better pitchers in the early part of the century. Smith started with his first pro team in 1900 and moved up through the ranks until he was signed by the White Sox in 1904. With a drop dead curveball and a nasty spitball that he was still perfecting, Smith won an impressive 16 games in his rookie campaign, followed by a 19-win season in 1905. That year, to go along with his excellent record, Smith sported a sweet 2.13 earned-run average, but the highlight of that season came on September 6, when Smith hurled a no-hitter against the Detroit Tigers.
