Oscar Berger was a master caricaturist for decades and most of his portraits' subjects are immediately identifiable. This one, however, is a little puzzling. The ony person I can think of that resembles this drawing is Russian-born Prince Serge Obolensky (1890-1978), a U.S. Army paratrooper, socialite, publicist, businessman and hotelier, ubiquitous among the smart set at the same time Berger was skewering various friends and acquaintances in his circle. (last photo is Obolensky in later life.)
Well, if anyone knows for sure, please let me know!
The work has some wear and tear -- some minor foxing in spots, and a weird crease/dent next to his shoulder (see 3rd pic), but otherwise is in good shape.
Signed "Berger, New York" on the lower right.
