Artist proof entitled "The Concert" by the talented British painter & print-maker Elyse Lord (1885-1971).
The back back bears the label of Arthur Ackermann & Son, the London publisher & print seller that started in 1795 (although the labels says 1783, so maybe there was a pre-cursor ) by Rudolph Ackermann.
Lord was known for her unusual, multi-layered printmaking techniques, and the etching combines several; it's a drypoint and aquatint with hand-coloring.
It's in nice condition with light wear from age -- some rippling to the paper, but no fading to the work's vibrant colors.
The mat could use replacing as it has some toning and it should be reframed as bits of debris from the paper on the back have made their way into the front.
Elyse Ashe Lord was acclaimed for her Far East-inspired works, including her woodcuts. She lived her entire life in Britain and although her work shows a strong Asian influence, she never actually traveled the continent. Her inspiration instead came from Chinese literature, artwork and her own imagination.
