C. 1940s-'50s Oil On Canvas Of Beautiful Woman, NYC Artist Alex Redmond (1902-1975)

1940s-1950s oil on canvas by New York artist Alexander James Redmond, so prolific an illustrator he listed himself in his building’s directory “Artist of Magazines.”
The painting was likely done for one of the many romance or mystery magazines for which he worked. It’s in very good condition with virtually no wear, and the work itself measures Xxxxxxxxxx.
The frame may be one Mr. Redmond had toward the end of his life as it looks to be from the 1970s.

Alex (also Alec) Redmond was born June 24, 1902 in Brooklyn, New York.

After the First World War, he and his brother Edward attended art classes in Philadelphia, and in 1926 they moved back to New York, where they shared an art studio at 55 West 10th Street in Greenwich Village, where one of their neighbors was the famous Lebanese artist and poet Khalil Gibran, author of The Prophet. Edward specialized in portraits and Alex listed himself in the building directory as an "Artist of Magazines."

He found steady work painting many covers for larger-sized "bed sheet" magazines, such as Crime Detective, Real Detective Tales and Mystery Stories. In the 1930s his covers regularly appeared on pulp magazines produced by Harry Steeger's Popular Publications. The majority of his work appeared on pulp romance magazines, such as All Story Love, Complete Love, Ideal Love, New Love, Love Fiction Monthly, Love Novels, Love Short Stories, and Sweetheart Love Stories.
In the late 1940s, he lived and worked at 15 West 67th Street, a popular artist studio building on the Upper West Side where friends and neighbors included other pulp artists, such as Norman Saunders, George Gross, Ralph DeSoto, Richard Lillis, Gloria Stoll, and Allen Anderson.
Alexander Redmond died at his 67th St. studio at the age of seventy-three on November 5, 1975.
