Elizabeth Bonté was a Paris based Art Nouveau jeweler Inspired by the work of René Lalique, Bonté specialized in the use of horn - signed to the reverse E. Bonte c. 1900. It is hand carved and assembled in two levels for dimension and depth. Elizabeth Bonte studied at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs and is considered to be one of the top masters of Art Nouveau carved horn jewelry. The horn on this item is probably bull or mountain goat and is hand patinated for depth and detail. Pate de verde beads in pink are added to the rope necklace. She was inspired by Lalique, and created very naturalistic pieces of flowers, trees and the insects that were so popular during the Art Nouveau period. This beautiful and rare piece is circa 1920's-1930's. She merged her workshop with one-time rival, George Pierre who also used horn extensively, and together they made art nouveau jewelry and art items like hair combs until 1936.
