This Vim-Sheftel colorimeter is based on the form patented in 1933 by Abraham George Sheftel (1899-1951), a New York physician. It was made by The MacGregor Instrument Co., a firm in Needham, Mass. that was established by John MacGregor (1877-1957), an immigrant from Scotland. According to advertisements, it allowed physicians to do blood sugar tests quickly and easily in their office or at a patient’s bedside.
