Tibetan Thangka Painting On Silk

This 19th c Tibetan Thank painting was generously donated to "Namaste Nepal" by a local Kennebunk woman. Her ferried rescued this piece from a flea market in mid coast Maine.
The painting is beautiful and sacred. It undoubtedly resided originally in a Tibetan Monastery in the late 19th century. How it got to Maine in the 21 century remains a mystery.
The border is silk: green, gold and red. Diameter 42 in. x 33 in.. Condition is appropriate to age, wear and world-wide transfer. See photos.

The image is of a four armed Chenrezik (center image) who is regarded as the embodiment of compassion. He is surrounded by other Deities. Since Thank paintings are sacred images, they are to be treated with great respect, regardless of their age or condition. they should always be place in a careful location and should never be placed on the floor or treated casually. Buddhism professes that the blessings obtained from being these images are very special.
