Antique Japanese Gosho Ningyo Doll And Isho Doll

Fully clothed in ceremonial attire this pair of Japanese dolls stands majestically awaiting your bid!

The Gosho Ningyo Japanese doll is also known as "Court Dolls". These chubby, white-skinned, baby dolls were given as gifts to aristocrats for hundreds of years. They are thought to bring good luck, prosperity, and happiness. Gosho Ningyo would be passed down to the next generation as part of a family member's art collection. The whiteness of the skin was traditionally made using ground shells from a specific kind of oyster shell. Comes with original fabric. Split on top of head.

The female doll also referred to as Isho dolls are dressed in the costumes of the Japanese traditional fabric. Her head is removable and can swivel in directions of your liking.

Together, these two dolls make for a wonderful pairing and historical statement of Japanese culture.
