"Aurum Reginae; Or A Compendious Tractate, and Chronological Collection Of Records in the Tower, and Court of Exchequer Concerning Queen-Gold:….." by William Prynne, published in Latin in London 1668. Missing covers, missing Appendix page (2) - last page marked 42, overall poor condition but still a good historical document. The following from Lawbookexchange website: "Broadly a defense of the King's right to impose taxation on his subjects, these essays are a historical review and defense of the aurum reginae, or queen-gold, a revenue raised by the king to support the queen and her retainers. Prynne was a contentious and erudite Puritan attorney and legal antiquarian who wrote several books and pamphlets about legal history, religion and politics.". Provenance: From the Thomas Rockwell collection. Tom was the son of the famous American illustrator, Norman Rockwell, and was a book collector and book seller residing in both Stockbridge Massachusetts, where he opened a book and print store with his brother Peter, and Lagrangeville NY.
