SUPERB COLOR LITHOGRAPH OF THE US BATTLESHIP MAINE

Superb color lithograph of the "U.S. Battleship Maine" by the American 19th century artist F. Fetherston. Vibrantly colored starboard quartering view of the USS Maine dramatically cutting a wake with a tugboat and 3 masted schooner in background accompanied by a flock of seagulls. The famous dreadnought is flying an American national flag, a Commissioning Pennant and the U.S. Navy Jack.The quality of the lithography is excellent with sharp details visible in the rigging, armament and sailors. The artist's name and date appear in the bottom left of the print and the copyright 1898 by M.F. Tobin New York City. The print on the lower right has started to curl up with two tiny tears. Gilt and gesso frame is in very good to excellent condition. Image size 15 3/4" x 8". Overall size with frame 23 1/2" x 16"
