Title: Räuchermänner (Smoking Man) I
Culture: German
Region: Germany
Dimensions:
Description: This Räuchermann features a white-bearded figure in dark clothing with a brown hat and gloves, holding a halberd and lantern. It includes a pack of incense and is marked with a sticker reading "Erzgebirgische, Made in Germany, Volkskunst." Räuchermänner are traditional incense smokers from the Ore Mountains, designed to burn cone incense (Räucherkerzchen). Introduced in the 19th century, these figures, when placed over a lit cone, allow smoke to escape from their mouth, creating a charming display. They are commonly featured during the Christmas season alongside Schwibbögen (candle arches) and other festive decorations.
