Nancy DeVita Belle of the West Ship Framed Lithograph
The Belle of the West was built in East Dennis in 1853, In modern ways of thinking, she would be the Marilyn Monroe of the seas. People flocked to the shore to watch her arrive into port. Here she is depicted racing the ship Starlight home from Calcutta. The captains of both vessels were brothers and the race ended in a dead heat.
