19th Century English Salt Glazed Bamboo Rope Ceramic Pitcher
English Stoneware Pitcher made in the first half of the 19th century by an English pottery. Salt glaze stoneware pitcher with a matte green finish. Raised relief of bamboo: vertical jointed bamboo stalks bound together by horizontal pieces of rope. Applied handle has an arched form and continues the rope theme.
The pitcher / tankard is approx. 5 3/8" tall and wide (from handle to spout). Unmarked, but likely made by the Ridgway family of potters in Staffordshire. Incised on the base is 3 97. Overall condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or repairs.
