“Loders” original abstract painting 1443 on paper by John Whitney 91, measuring
approximately 21.5” w x 27.5” tall in the frame, see pictures for more information, sight
measuring approximately 9” w x 19.5” tall. The glass, plastic, or metal blank plate is
painted by the artist using graphic chemical and carbonated oil-based etching ink, this is
done using a variety of brushes and many other tools, A dialog ensues between the
artist and his work, when that faze of his process is finished the plate is positioned on
the bed of the etching press, Etching paper is then placed over the plate. The presses
blankets are laid on top of the paper and then hand cranked through the press, when the
print is pulled from the press the artwork is only part way along. In the next few days, the
print is revisited with more ink as one would paint a painting. Line is added as well as
other mediums, when this give and take conversation with the work and John is finished
and they have said there goodbye, the completed work of art is allowed time to dry
before showing.
