Paolo Corvino Signed, Original, Oil on Canvas, Boxing Match At Yankee Stadium - 48 X 60!
Paolo “Paul” Corvino was born September 20, 1930 in the Bronx, NY. He was a professional boxer turned artist. Many of his paintings and sculptures can been seen in public spaces, including terminals at JFK and LaGuardia airports, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, and the Museum of the City of New York. His works have been sold in fine galleries throughout the world including auctions at Sotheby’s and Christie's. He is listed in Who’s Who of American Artist. He worked out of his gallery and studio in Larchmont, NY until his death in 2013.
This piece is a boxing match, taking place in Yankee Stadium (the Bronx) but we cannot identify the fight. One fighter looks like Chuck Wepner (Bayonne Bleeder) or Gerry Cooney. We believe the other might be Ken Norton. There is a '76' written on the reverse but we found no fights that year that matched. Might be the year it was painted?
