A miniature portrait, on Ivory, of Moghul (Mughal) Empress, Mumtaz Mahal, for whom the Taj Mahal was built, as a shrine, in Agra, India. the other piece is a lovely Chinese work, on ivory or bone, depicting a man with his bird, on a perch - delicate work. Both likely use gouache paint.
Mahal is framed in a 3/8" wide scoop, gilt wood frame with glass. Piece is mounted to a grey board. It is in Good Antique condition w/ some nicks on the frame.
Man with bird is framed in a 5/8" wide scoop, gilt wood frame with glass. Piece is mounted to a red, velvet covered board.
Mahal measures 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 (frame) and 1 x 1 1/2 (Oval) and is in Good Antique condition.
Chinese man measures 7 1/2 x 9 (frame) and 2 1/4 x 4 and is in Good Antique condition. The frame is damaged on lower right corn - still keeping art safe.
