Antique Korean Book Storage Chest With Zelkova Panels And Brass Chinese Fittings

Korean book storage chest (kae-kumong bandaji or Chonju bandaji) zelkova panels, molding and frame, with yellow brass Chinese fret motifs carved on feet.
Top of the chest has four small drawers at the top with a double-door opening below. These hinged doors are crafted to slide out completely after opening to reveal intricately constructed compartments for sundries inside. Interior coved in brown paper with door interiors covered in heavy green paper with embossed floral design.
The Large opening below is characterized by an opening which opens downward (Kae-Kumong means literally a low gat or wall opening for a dog to come and go freely) and is typical of this type book storage chest. Interior unpapered except for interior of door which is covered with paper.
