“Standing Figure” . From a personal collection of MCM color screen prints, this applied finish on card stock is after Paul Klee. Featuring a naive figure of a woman in a long skirt and scarf outlined in black over a textured brown and purple mottled back ground, it is signed in plate as Klee. Unframed, measures 24 x 36 outside with the screen print at 18 x 29 3/8 approximate. Paul Klee was a Swiss-German artist whose works were influenced by expressionism, cubism and surrealism. He was known for his childlike perspectives and dry wit, and inclusion of animals in an expressionist/surreal form. This work is not as colorful as most of Klee’s other works but the plain woman does have a captivating twinkle in her eye.
Notes: Good, overall with some mild age toning, unknown vintage.
