Mordicai Gerstein (1935-2019) was an acclaimed American artist, writer, and illustrator, best known for his work in children's literature. He authored and illustrated numerous books, winning several prestigious awards throughout his career. One of his most notable achievements was winning the Caldecott Medal in 2004 for his book "The Man Who Walked Between the Towers," which tells the story of Philippe Petit's daring high-wire walk between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in 1974.

Gerstein's work is characterized by its vibrant, expressive style and his ability to convey deep emotion and complex narratives through his illustrations.
