Henri De Toulouse- Lautrec -Divan Japonais framed art!

The Divan Japonais was a small café-concert at 75 rue des Martyrs, where Yvette Guilbert began her career. This is Toulouse-Lautrec's only poster to show both Jane Avril and Yvette Guilbert, the two Montmartre demimondes who were both his friends and major inspirations. Jane Avril was the star dancer at the Moulin Rogue. She is pictured here seated next to the literary critic, Édouard Dujardin. On stage in the background, Guilbert is depicted from the neck down, recognizable by her trademark long black gloves. The composition is built along the diagonal of the stage and the orchestra in the style of Japanese woodblock prints that were so fashionable in Paris at the end of the 19th century. Lautrec impishly punctures the diagonal with the priapic scrolls of the instruments.


This auction is located in Bolles Harbor in Monroe, MI. The exact address will be given to winning bidders post auction with instructions to make an appointment for pickup-up. All items must be picked up at a scheduled appointment time. Everything is sold AS IS/ WHERE IS. Items are described to the best of our knowledge. If possible, we will point out the condition of the item(s)- i.e. chips or cracks on glass, wear on furniture, etc. As always, the best description of the item(s) are the photos, so please make sure to review all photos carefully. Please note that these items (unless titled ‘New in Box’ or ‘New with Tags’) are from an estate and are most likely vintage or antique items. As with most vintage & antique items they may require some cleaning or polishing upon purchase- after all part of the charm and history is that these pieces have a past, and are gaining a new life with you! Shipping: All smalls, jewelry, and other small items can be shipped. The winner is responsible for the shipping costs, and an $8 per package transportation/ packing fee. We use USPS and cannot give a shipping estimate prior to shipping. Should shipping costs be unpaid, the item is forfeited.
