Charles Pfister studied architecture and design at Berkeley. Between 1965-81, Pfister was a designer of corporate interiors in the San Francisco branch of architects Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. He was head of their interior design department for 15 years. It was during this period that he designed for Knoll. In 1981, he established his own firm with offices in San Francisco and London. Throughout his career, Pfister earned recognition for his work in interior design, graphics, product design, and architecture. He was known for interiors of elegant simplicity.
