This is a truly unique and eclectic auction that includes original art, collectibles, jewelry and folk art from around the world. Many pieces in this auction are from the private collection of prolific artist Alton S. Tobey (1914 – 2005). In his New York Times obituary, Tobey was described as "a muralist, portraitist and illustrator whose renderings of famous events and faces hang in museums, libraries, public buildings, corporate offices and private collections". Tobey began his career in the midst of the Depression and worked as an active WPA artist in the Federal Art Project, creating murals throughout Connecticut (notably in the East Hartford post office, and the Hartford Library). He is also known for mural pieces he created for the Smithsonian Institute and Douglas MacArthur memorial in addition to his many infamous portraits, illustrations and paintings. During his life he attended, and later taught at Yale University. In his extensive travels throughout the United States, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America, Tobey and his wife acquired an extensive collection folk art and souvenirs crafted by local artisans that span decades - several of which are offered throughout this auction.

PICKUP DAY: Please be sure to bring adequate moving help for larger pieces and a large enough vehicle to transport your items. Please bring the appropriate packing material, paper, boxes, bags, etc that you may need to safety transport your item. You are responsible for moving larger pieces, we can not provide any assistance.
