RECORD GRADING
I rate my records in a Cover/Record format. A record graded VG/VG+ means the cover is VG and the record is VG+.
MINT (M)
None of the records in this auction are mint. Even brand new never opened records and covers are often not in mint condition.
NEAR MINT (NM)
A good description of a NM record looks like it just was opened. I rarely grade anything as NM, although many pieces I rate VG+ would be rated NM by others.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)
VG+ records are great but show some small signs of use that don’t really affect the sound quality. They may have a few light scuffs or scratches, slight warps, or small marks on a label usually around the center hole.
VG+ covers have only minor wear such as a minor seam wear or a split (less than 1”), slight wear at the opening, small imperfections on the corners or a cut-out marking indicated that the record was a promo or discounted copy.
Very Good (VG)
VG records have more obvious flaws. They might have many light scratches and possibly a few that can be felt with a fingernail. They may also have some minor writing, tape, or sticker on the label. These records still sound great, although they may have some noticeable surface noise.
VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear, wear around the edges, obvious seem splits, creases, or it may have writing, stickers, price tags, or stamps on them.
Good (G),
Good does not mean bad! I guarantee all records won’t skip. These records were loved and played often. I’ll generally rate a record (G) if it has lots of light scratches, or several deep enough to feel with a fingernail that creates obvious surface noise. Generally, I only sell (G) records if they are rare or desirable. These are great for someone who wants to own and listen to The Beatles without spending and arm and a leg.
A Good cover may have major ring wear, seem splits, and creases, as well as lots of writing, tape, or stickers, and possibly water stains.
POOR (P)
I don’t sell Poor (P) records, but I might sell a poor cover if the record inside is in good condition and is desirable.
