Item Description

The Type 13 George Washington portrait stamp was issued on January 24, 1911. This is the rarest of the United States roll stamps actually used in the mail. A very small supply was sent for use only at the Orangeburg, New York Post Office. At the present time the stamp is valued at more than $2,000 in used condition and at nearly $9,000 in mint condition. On a cover the 3º Washington is worth more than $3,500, and a pair in mint condition can command a price in excess of $25,000.
