Alfons Maria Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech painter, illustrator, graphic & decorative artist, as well as architecture; famous for his distinct decorative lavish, flowing intricate and organic Art Nouveau designs. Living and working in Paris during the Art Nouveau period of the late 19th -early 20th century, he shared a studio with Paul Gauguin for a short time. His designs have become among the best known & recognized images of the Nouveau period. His posters focused almost entirely on beautiful women with flowing hair and curling arabesque forms filling the frame and causing the eye to wander continuously within the image.
