What's a "Sick Call Set"?
These sets usually consist of a crucifix, two candles, a vessel for holding holy water, and a stand or in this case- a lidded wood box with stands inside. They are used by priests to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick when they come to “call” or visit someone who is seriously ill and homebound. While the sacrament was originally only given to those who were dying, it can now be given to anyone who is facing a serious illness or surgery, as well as the elderly.
2 glass candle holders, as well as round slots in the wood of the case to hold 2 candles, a plastic bottle with Holy Water, two 6 1/2" candles (unused), a cloth, cotton, and a later-added plastic spoon. Metal loop for handing on the Wall.
Consistent with age and use.
