The Purple Heart medal was the first U.S. military decoration, awarded for bravery in action. It was instituted by General George Washington in 1782, and presented to service members (or family of deceased) who have been wounded or killed as a result of enemy action while serving in the U.S. military.
The medal itself has been well-preserved and remains in the original condition. Please note the wear and debris on the outside of the case.
Consistent with age and use.
